ALEXANDRIA—The tax credits never end in the Virginia Legislature.
Delegate David Ramadan, R-Dulles, pre-filed a bill Monday that would create a $500 income tax credit for employees who telecommute at least 20 hours a week, 45 weeks out of the year.
But the credits would be issued on a “first-come, first-served” basis, with the state doling out no more than $2 million worth of telecommute credits a year, per Ramadan’s proposed legislation, HB 1336. The credit, if Ramadan’s bill succeeds in the General Assembly, would be available from 2013 to 2018.
Gov. Bob McDonnell made seeking a tax credit for telecommuters one of his campaign promises. Legislation adopted in 2011 provides credits of up to $1,200 per employee or up to $50,000 per company, for eligible telework expenses over 2012 and 2013.
